We cannot imagine dangerous animals that do not include such fierce predators as lions or sharks. Nevertheless, the real threat is not necessarily size or power. Small animals are silent and many are highly dangerous to the world in general unnoticed. These animals are dangerous to human life in various forms, be they deadly insects, or even potent mammals. The 10 most dangerous animals in the world have been listed in rank with the highest number of human fatalities caused by each animal in a given year.

Mosquito

The mosquitoes are the most deadly animals on earth since they transmit harmful diseases when they bite people. Millions of people are infected with malaria, dengue, Zika virus, and yellow fever in a year. These are particularly fatal diseases in the tropics and developing nations with a low number of medical facilities.

Human

Among the largest threats to human species is humanity. The death of millions of people each year is the result of wars, crimes, terrorism, and violent conflicts. Snake

Each year, venomous snakes kill over 100,000 people all over the world. Snake bites are prevalent in agricultural regions, villages, and forests. Largely, victims do die due to the delay in medical care. Snake venom such as cobras, vipers, and mambas strike the nervous system or blood leading to paralysis or internal bleeding except when a quick cure is applied.

Dog

Dogs have caused a lot of death to man through the rabies, which is a fatal virus transmitted by bites. Rabies is a nervous system infection and it is practically fatal when it occurs. Stray dogs are prevalent and the rabies vaccination programmes are fragile or absent, and most rabies deaths occur in Asia and Africa.

Crocodile

The crocodiles are very dangerous predators that strike unexpectedly. They also have powerful jaws that they use to seize victims and drag them in water. The attacks of crocodiles are frequent in rivers, lakes and along the coast. Each year thousands of people are killed, and it is in Africa, Australia, and Southeast Asia, where human beings reside near crocodile areas.

Elephant

Elephants are gigantic terrestrial creatures and when enraged or frustrated they can be extremely dangerous. They can stamp, kick or trample down human beings. Majority of the deaths associated with the elephants occur in places where forests have been deforested and where the animals are involved in contact with farms and villages. 

Hippopotamus

Hippos are very aggressive and territorial creatures particularly in water. They are able to move at a higher speed than humans and assault boats or individuals in an unforeseen manner. Their powerful jaws and teeth are sharp thus killable. In Africa, more people are killed by the hippo population than by lions, leopards and crocodiles.

Lion

Lions are fierce hunters that are referred to as kings of the jungle. Even though such attacks on human beings are infrequent, they may also be fatal. On occasions, lions can be aggressive as they can attack when there is lack of food or when humans move into their living areas. Majority of these incidents take place in Africa whereby the villages are the ones near the game reserves.

Shark

Sharks are also feared creatures, although their numbers of killing people are minimal. Majority of the shark attacks are mistaken identity. There are only a few fatal attacks that occur annually. Although sharks are dangerous predators, they do not pose a significant threat on human beings as other animals on this list.

Jellyfish

Certain species of jelly fishes like the box jellyfish are very toxic. Their sting has the ability to inflict great pain, paralysis, death of the heart or death in a few minutes. The death of jellyfish normally happens in warm coastal waters especially at the Indo-Pacific area whereby the swimmers get into an unintentional contact with the jellyfish.
